Do I need an emissions inspection?

Only if you live in St. Louis County, St. Louis City, St. Charles County, or Jefferson County. These four counties require emissions tests every 2 years. Electric cars don't need emissions tests.

Do I need a safety inspection?

You need one if your car is 10+ years old OR has 150,000+ miles. Newer cars with lower mileage are exempt. Safety inspections happen every 2 years based on your car's year (even years test in even years, odd in odd).

Where do I get my property tax receipt?

Get it from your county Collector of Revenue office (online, phone, or in person). If you don't owe vehicle taxes, you'll need a Statement of Non-Assessment instead.

How long are inspections valid?

Inspections are good for 60 days when renewing your plates. Get them done within 60 days of your renewal.

Can I renew online?

Yes! Most Missouri counties allow online renewal. You can also renew in person, by mail, or by phone. Make sure you have all inspections and documents ready first.

What if I lost my renewal notice?

You can still renew. You'll need your plate number and last 5 digits of your VIN. Bring your registration card or title as proof you own the vehicle.
